The Jeep Wrangler YJ was first introduced in 1987 as the model that would be replacing the CJ (Civilian Jeep) series, and the first Jeep in the Wrangler line. Although the jeep community initially didn’t take to the rectangular headlights the new YJ was sporting, the first Wrangler proved itself as a versatile vehicle, with tremendous on—and off—road capabilities. The 1987 Wrangler was made with daily-drivers in mind, and aimed to transition the automotive brand into the on road market. Because of this the jeep received a full redesign, and today—despite individual opinions—the Wrangler YJ is considered a classic in the Jeep lineup for both its history and its impact to the jeep community.
