Upgrading your Jeep Wrangler JL or Gladiator JT with new LED headlights is one of the most rewarding mods you can do. It not only gives your Jeep a modern, aggressive look, but also greatly enhances nighttime visibility and off-road safety.
If you’ve just purchased 9” LED headlights with DRL and turn signal functions, this guide will walk you through every step of the installation. It’s easy, beginner-friendly, and typically takes 30–45 minutes to complete using just a few basic tools.
🔧 Tools You’ll Need
Make sure you have the following tools ready before you begin:
-
Power Tool (optional, for faster installation)
-
1/4" Ratchet
-
1/4" Extension
-
10 mm Socket — for removing and reinstalling headlight bolts
-
Metal Panel Popper — for removing grille clips
-
Flat Screwdriver
-
⚠️ Pro Tip: Be careful not to overtighten any bolts when using power tools. Excessive torque may damage the headlight housing or mounting points.
🚙 Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1: Open the Hood
Pop the hood open and secure it properly to gain full access to the grille area.
Step 2: Locate the Six Push Pins
You’ll find six plastic push pins along the top of the grille. These hold the upper grille section in place.
Step 3: Remove the Push Pins
Use the Metal Panel Popper or a flat screwdriver to carefully lift and remove all six pins. Keep them in a safe place for reinstallation later.
Step 4: Remove the Grille
Start pulling the grille outward gently from the bottom corners.
Once the lower clips release, lift the grille slightly upward to detach it completely.
Set the grille aside for reinstallation after the headlights are mounted.
Step 5: Remove the Factory Headlights
Use the 1/4" Ratchet with a 10 mm Socket to remove the three bolts securing each headlight.
Once loosened, pull the headlight slightly forward.
Step 6: Disconnect the Headlight Harness
Unplug the factory headlight wiring harness from the back of the housing.
This will free the old headlight completely.
Step 7: Prepare Your New LED Headlights
Take out your 9” LED headlights with DRL & turn signals and confirm that all parts and wires are included.
Check the connectors to ensure they match your factory plugs.
Step 8: Connect and Install the New Headlights
Plug the main headlight connector into the Jeep’s factory harness.
Align the mounting holes and secure each headlight using the three 10 mm bolts you previously removed.
